I am so worried about Article 11 and 13 that are being voted on tomorrow. If they pass, and I know it won’t happen overnight, it will mean a total and complete filtering of all content being uploaded to any website in the European Union, which will block any unauthorized use of content. It means no more transformative works – no more of my gifsets, no more of pretty fanart and fan edits and meta-posts and gif reactions and much, much more of what makes a fandom experience.
If the Articles pass, it means the gifs I’ve been making for the past 6 years on this website will potentially become illegal. It means that every single reaction gif you have saved in a folder will not be able to be uploaded again. It means that any picture, any media, any song, any video you post will be scanned and potentially filtered off the internet because of these filters.
It will also mean that any citation you make, or any hotlinking you make, might become illegal if you can’t pay a fee to the press you’re linking to.
Whereas article 11 makes it illegal to link to copyrighted material (wtf??), article 13 makes it illegal to upload content of which you do not have ownership.
Knowing how well that’s working for YouTube so far, you can imagine how well it’d work if it rolled out onto the rest of the Internet.
It is WORSE than Net Neutrality. This is a censorship machine.
Some solutions may seem so small but this is a greater impact.

Article 13 got approved and that means the internet will be censored for all countries under the EU. If that happens, it’s likely bloggers from affected countries cannot post content anymore. I wouldn’t be able to post gifs, edits, icons, anything anymore. Even adding links to posts could cost money. You can get more information here and here or simply using google to find information from a source you trust. Please sign the petition here and here (everyone can sign this one apparently) to prevent this from happening. I don’t want to lose my blog.
