I have texts, I have phone conversations, and I said, “This is unacceptable!” And I told them how -you know- I almost got violent, but I didn’t. And I said, “What are you going to do about this predator that you have roaming your hallways?” And -you know- I was told, “We are going to do everything in our power. We are going to handle this Terry. You’re right. It is unacceptable.” And then they disappeared. Nothing happened.
Capitalism has only existed for about 400 years, given its absolute maximum timeline, which is the timeline that includes the Atlantic Slave Trade. Industrial capitalism has only existed for about 150 years. Humanity has existed for more than 100,000 years.
There is no greater historical amnesia then the idea that capitalism has always existed, and yet, this idea is far more pervasive than you would think. This idea is poisonous. It corrodes all potential for change. Don’t let the rich ghouls who control the world erase our collective history. We have been different, we are building something different now, and things will and can be different in the future. Humanity will outlive capitalism, if we have anything to say about it.
Tell the Canadian Government that under Trump, the US will never be safe for asylum seekers and their children
Canada must suspend the Safe Third Country Agreement
The inhumane treatment of children, families, and all asylum seekers along the United States and Mexico border has disturbed many of us here in Canada, and around the world.
Lives are being destroyed and Canada is being called to action.
Canadians can and must do something to stop the inhumane treatment of people risking their lives to escape violence and seek refuge.
It is clear that the United States is no longer a safe country for child migrants and asylum seekers.
Yet Canada remains in an agreement with the U.S. that is preventing asylum seekers reaching the United States from requesting refugee protection here in Canada.
Therefore, Canada must finally suspend the Safe Third Country agreement with the United States, and provide a recourse for these children and families to be treated humanely and with dignity.
Sign the petition, and call on Prime Minister Trudeau to stand up for human rights, help these children and families, and finally suspend the Safe Third Country Agreement.
As of July 4th 2018, the Internet as we know it might be dead for good.
The European Parliament is passing a new Copyright Directive. Article 13 #CensorshipMachine will impose widespread censorship of all the content we share online. Art, fanfiction, parodies, remixes, mashups, memes, etc.. Anything that you do not hold the rights over will be taken down.
Article 13 would force all online platforms to police and prevent the uploading of copyrighted content, or make people seek the correct licenses to post that content. Internet platforms hosting large amounts of user-uploaded content must monitor user behaviour and filter their contributions to identify and prevent copyright infringement.
Such filters will be mandatory for platforms including YouTube, Facebook, Tumblr, Reddit and Instagram, but also much smaller websites.
Last Tuesday (19th June 2018) a group of more than 70 people who have played important roles in building the internet and developing it (Tim Berners-Lee, Vincent Cerf,
Jimmy Wales, Mitchell Baker…) into what it is today addressed an open letter to the members of the European Parliament:
“As creators ourselves, we share the concern that there should be a fair distribution of revenues from the online use of copyright works, that benefits creators, publishers, and platforms alike.
But Article 13 is not the right way to achieve this. By requiring Internet platforms to perform automatic filtering all of the content that their users upload, Article 13 takes an unprecedented step towards the transformation of the Internet from an open platform for sharing and innovation, into a tool for the automated surveillance and control of its users. […] The damage that this may do to the free and open Internet as we know it is hard to predict, but in our opinions could be substantial.”

WHAT TO DO IF YOU ARE STOPPED BY IMMIGRATION OFFICERS (UKBA)
If the UK Border Agency or police stop you in the street and ask you about your immigration status:
– You DO NOT have to answer any questions.
– You DO NOT have to tell them your name or address.
– Tell them that you do not want to talk to them.
– Stay polite but confident.
– You can walk away.
They are not allowed to stop you just because of your race. They can only stop you if they have a good reason. If they stop you just because of how you look, or the language you speak, tell them:
“This is racist.“
“This is illegal.“
“I will make a complaint."
