Just a little taste of what’s going on at my workplace right now.
We have been fighting for a raise because a lot of people who work at Disney have to work 60+ hours a week just to get by.
What was their response? “Ok, everyone gets a bonus. $1000. But not all at once. $500 now and $500 at the end of the year.” (in case some people get fired or quit, so they don’t have to pay the full amount to those people).
Of course, we were like “No, that’s not what we said we wanted. We want a PERMANENT RAISE.”
So Disney was like OK, fine, whoever is NOT part of the union fighting for a raise gets the $1000 bonus 🙂
Meanwhile, we are still fighting for a raise…
I’m sorry, this has 62 notes and that is INCREDIBLE BULLSHIT.
I’ve been watching Disney since I was 4 years old. So basically since i was 4 years old, Disney’s been making a profit off of me; the same way they make a profit off of the average 4 year old.
I don’t care whatdystopian madness of a world you live in, if your primary audience is CHILDREN, you are ethically freakin obligated to behave and treat your employees in a humane manner.
You don’t get to make literally billions of dollars off of kids’ wonder and awe and hope in the world while exploiting and contributing to the suffering of 100,000+ human beings.
You don’t get to fucking do that.

As a former “Cast Member” at Disney World, I can 100% confirm this bullshit. We had a saying the that “The magic is for guest not cast.”
The child labor thing, I’m assuming they were referring to the CP or College Program kids. They don’t get holiday pay because Disney classifies them working as an internship. So, they’d all get like 12 hour shifts on holidays but wouldn’t receive holiday pay. It was bullshit cause those kids worked their asses off, then the majority of their paycheck goes to housing. This company is fucking awful to their employees, and a lot of it has been since Bob Iger took over.
One of my co-workers there had been a cast member since the late 80′s when
Michael Eisner ran Disney. She would tell me how he would literally shut down magic kingdom (THE BUSIEST PARK) to the public and let it be for only cast members of the parks. The park would be open to them as if it was any day, but only cast members and their families were allowed in that day. At christmas, every employee would get a christmas bonus and a goody bag (filled with a special cast christmas t-shirt, discount coupons, a gift card, and free tickets.) So, obviously they used to care for their employees at one point.
