added commentary: the first three gifs are studies of steve then and steve now #they represent the ways steve changed; how the war made him tougher #it also perhaps painfully highlights his humanity #in the third gif he jumps onto the grenade out of bravery #but the gif slowly fades into him on the floor of zola’s train #here he is thrown to the floor by the enemy – not of his own accord #he is just a boy – just a soldier – he’s not omnipotent #and i wonder if #for all that steve is praised for jumping on the grenade #he hates himself because the moment he was on the floor in the train #he didn’t succeed in saving anyone’s life #instead bucky lost his #the last gif is in complete colour for a reason #steve – no matter how changed he is by war – #will always be self sacrificial #it is also a big fuck you in the face of phillips’ words to steve #he is enough #he was always enough
