@marvel please stop trying to make “end of the line” a normal thing that people say. People don’t just say that. Stop trying to make Steve and Bucky’s relationship less special by watering the line down with other movies.

this generation gets dragged so much and insulted so much and called conceited and careless and lazy and stupid and yet we’re just taking selfies when we think we look nice and complimenting each other and educating ourselves and un-learning internalized prejudices and we care so much about the world and the future and we’re so tolerant and passionate and perseverant and i love it. i love it so much. everyone hated us and we just didn’t care. everyone hated us so we learned to love ourselves

… People is hating on Sebastian for being white?
Man, do you even understand why this men left his country as a kid?
Do you even get what he means with “I didn’t have comic books”, “I was communist”, “I remember this one thing about the revolution when I was a little kid”, “I had an accent so people made fun of me”, “I wanted to fit”?
Like… this is a white dude, yeah, and I do understand white dudes all over the world have been shitting on minorities since forever but here is the thing: when a breathing white dude is nice, happy, respectful and, you know, super unproblematic (thank you god and also jesus, and of course mrs. Stan and husband), is decent and you are hating on him because he is white, YOU ARE THE PROBLEM.
#NO ONE TALKS SHIT OF SEBASTIAN STAN AND GETS AWAY WITH IT #THERE IS LITERALLY NOTHING BAD YOU CAN SAY ABOUT HIM (via @cptnbeck)
THIS.
Yes. People have got social justice backwards. We’re supposed to be fighting so nobody is hated for no reason, not so a different group of people gets to be hated in place of the currently oppressed groups. (And in Seb’s case, fgs, he was bullied through high school and he spent his childhood in an even worse way – the guy is still happy he’s able to eat fruit whenever he wants, god. So you’d think he’s not exactly your average My Life Has Always Been Perfect So I Don’t Understand Oppression white guy. And surprise! He’s not.)
But also – people trying to find bad things to say about Seb is hilarious.
“…he likes scifi.”
“…people don’t hate him.”
Seriously? That’s the best you can do? Then maybe you should think twice about hating him.
Thank you, so glad that cooler heads have prevailed today. For those who somehow think that Sebastian hasn’t suffered enough to earn our admiration, it’s time for a little history–meet Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceausescu (pronounced chow-SHEHS-coo).
He became Head of State in 1967 under the Soviet Union, but endeared himself to the people by openly defying Russia’s invasion of Czechoslovakia, earning a reputation as a maverick. However, the previous year saw him implementing Decree 770, banning all abortions in an attempt to boost the nation’s low birth rate; the government also made divorce illegal except for extreme cases with the same goal in mind.
With all this, Romania’s population of course exploded– but at the same time, wages and resources dwindled. Families simply could not care for the children they were forced to have, and any attempt at seeking out abortion would get you thrown in prison. So began a great epidemic of abandonment–orphanages overflowed with cast-off kids, and when they couldn’t take in any more, parents took to just leaving children in the streets, in train stations, or selling them. When western media finally gained access to these orphanages in 1994, they found vast, unlit rooms full of babies, toddlers, and even prepubescent kids tied to their cribs, only being fed every couple of days. Their limbs were shrunken from disuse, they could not walk or talk, and most screamed when touched.
Ceausescu’s other legacies include:
-complete control of the press, including video editors who were ordered, under pain of torture, to cut out any footage of their leader sweating, fidgeting or blinking
-running the world’s most brutal force of Secret Police
-gutting Romanian cinema because it was an affront to Soviet ideals
-letting donated blood go untested, which naturally led to an AIDS crisis
-exporting most of the nation’s food in 1982–the year Seb was born–to pay off debts; supermarket shelves lay bare and millions starved
Ceausescu and his wife were finally arrested, put through an-hour-long tribunal, and shot against a wall on December 25, 1989.
This is the hell Sebastian and his mother escaped; so I very much give him the benefit of the doubt as to whether he knows true hardship. Besides, no one has given any reason for us to doubt all the stories of him being a ray of sunshine and cinnamon cookies: that’s all anyone has ever said about the man. Now, let’s just all agree Sebastian’s great–and he is–while we gear up for Civil War!
Just if someone doubts Sebastian actually have contact with this kind of horror. Let me show you that one time he actually talked about the Romanian Revolution during the interview he give to GQ Romania:
“I have some unforgettable memories from the Revolution. I remember that one afternoon I was playing outside – I was 6 or 7 years old – and I heard a really loud noise coming from the street and all the children were running to see what happened. When I approached them, I saw a Dacia (Romanian car) full of students shouting, raising their fists through the open side windows and with the town hall’s Romanian flag – with a huge hole in the middle where it used to be the communist symbol – blowing in the wind. Even though I was very young, I did understand that what was happening was very important.”
MORE? This is also the man who said things like this about him leaving his country and starting over (and over and over and over again):
“My family was moving quite often and the time to assimilate what was happening was insufficient. I had to adapt myself really fast to new surroundings. It was a cultural shock. I remember that I was in a supermarket in Vienna and it was the first time I saw bananas. Now that was an event! (*) When you are young, you are just like a sponge and this helped me integrate quickly. But I did feel like a stranger in the first years.”
“The biggest change was the language barrier. When I moved to Vienna, I had to learn German. Then, when I was 12, we moved to the USA and I had to change the languages again. I couldn’t have learnt so fast if it weren’t for my stepfather who is of American origins. It was really difficult for me in high school only because I had an accent. I remember that there was a year during which I spoke English defensively – even with my mother who continued to speak to me in Romanian. It was a great effort for me because I just wanted to be like all children and to lose my accent.”
“I find myself a very lucky man who has had many opportunities. My work depended on what I did with all those opportunities. I didn’t have the slightest idea that I would get where I am now. Starting from my family’s journey in 3 different countries, I never knew what to expect and to what to get attached. Therefore, I realized that no matter where the path leads me, I must trust it. Trust is what has been motivating me so far.”
Oh, and his first role was a homeless romanian boy who lived in a train station. Does that sounds familiar? Ah, yes, It sounds like what @colorfulcandypainter said about what happened to lots of kids during that time.
Here have Seb talking about it: “I actually had the opportunity to perform when I was in Vienna. My mother took me to some auditions and my first role was the one of a homeless Romanian child. I was filmed in a subway in a short movie. I didn’t like it too much. I found it boring having to wait on the set for such a long time.” and also, here have a cute gifset of it and the video of the little scene. Yeah, he was adorable and has always had good hair.
And just if you want to know, he is such a cinnamon roll, he finished that quote with: “Only when I was already in my first year of high school in America I started enjoying it. I had a friend who, even though he had hearing problems, he was responsible of all the school plays. His attitude and the fact that he didn’t let a disability to discourage him made me try.”
And what would he say to his younger self?
I would probably say, “It’s going to be OK. Maybe even better than OK.”
(x)
This man is beautiful. Like @phdna says, he was freaking bullied when he was a teen, he came from a very different culture to America and yOU THINK HE HAD IT EASY? And man, don’t get me started of all the times he had actually talked about it and even about his stepfather being ill, which isn’t easy either. Man, with all that crap he could be easily a shitty person, he could have been a very horrible person and noooo, he is a sweetheart and actual well educated and descent person. BYE.
*: People, his own “fans”, made fun of him about the banana thing when this interview come out. Now, I’m not the most friendly person in the world when it comes to “fans” making fun of someone I admire so much, so don’t let me started on it.
If anyone hates on Seb in front of me I will put THEM on the ground. I’ll fight anyone for him.
He’s a good man with a good heart and he doesn’t deserve to be treated like shit by anyone.
Fuck haters. Fuck ‘em all.
I don’t want to baby Sebastian because he is a grown ass man, but if anyone says shit about him, know that I will smack you down.
Most Eastern European people may be light skinned, so yes they fall under the surface description of “white”, but these countries and people have barred the brunt of awful circumstances time and time again. They have remained resilient and strong, but oftentimes left with little help and no where to go. I understand it’s hard to keep track of all the horrible things that have happened in the world, but please don’t be ignorant and ignore when people are trying to talk about their experiences.
